Written by John Conolly in 1973.

Written by our friend Janie Meneely, but we first heard it sung by Eight Belles (from Sligo) at Liverpool Shanty Festival.


7 - Essequibo River

The Essequibo River is the largest river in Guyana.


8 - The Dreadnought

The Dreadnought was a steam packet which famously made 31 round trips between Liverpool and New York from 1853 to 1864.


9 - Mrs McGrath

From the singing of Tommmy Makem with the Clancy Brothers.


10 - Bound to Australia

Found in Stan Hugil's book - the 'Man you don't meet everyday' line appears in another song.


11 - The Final Trawl

Written by Archie Fisher, inspired by the declining Scottish fishing trade.


12 - Clear the Track, Let the Bulgine Run

From the singing of Johnny Collins, the Bulgine is an engine.
